In Lobito Bound, explorer Dwayne Fields undertakes a 4,000-kilometre journey across Africa’s ‘Lobito Corridor’.' to discover whether the corridor will deliver lasting benefits to the continent or simply shift the balance of power between the U.S. and China.
Setting off from the Tanzanian capital of Dar Es Salaam on Africa’s Indian Ocean coast and travelling to the Atlantic, Dwayne meets industry workers, journalists, humanitarian staff and local communities, capturing their perspectives on a region on the brink of change. Their stories reveal the corridor’s complexity and the subtle ways development is reshaping lives, landscapes and economies.
Co-produced by Grammar Productions and Longerdays Productions in association with the Africell Impact Foundation, the film provides a rare, on-the-ground look at one of Africa’s most significant yet little-understood developments. There are no simple answers; at its heart, the story is one of quiet hope; hope that development might bring lasting benefits to the region, the continent, and the people whose lives it touches.
